Vamoise is a bohemian electro-pop Montreal music band, founded by singer-songwriter & composer Najah.
For live shows, Najah is accompanied by musicians Bart Frydrychowicz (Quo Vadis) on bass and guitars & Jean-Sébastien Brault-Labbé (The Blue Seeds) on drums.
All musicians use loopers to build the songs during the live performances; looping the music frees them up to move around on stage and create a space for change and creativity.
The band is characterized by the transportable nature of the music, as a metaphor for a universal identity - the rhythms entice us to dance through the cultural barriers and find the source of what moves us towards those critical moments where our dreams come true.
Najah started performing in 2004, producing her own shows (Vocalectro) and booking local bands. She performed as a solo-act playing guitar, keyboards and triggering samples that she arranged herself. In 2011, she founded Vamoise, while continuing her involvements with local bands as a keyboardist. Najah also works in sound design and music composition for film. In 2010-2011, she composed soundtracks for the films Sang Froid by Martin Thibaudeau (winner, Worldwide Short Film Festival; winner Best film, La Boca del Lobo Short Film Festival) and F*ck That by Lawrence Côté-Collins (winner, Meilleur court métrage québécois DIY at Fantasia Film Festival).
Musician, composer, arranger and producer, Jean-Sébastien BL first started his musical career in the 90’s as a singer and guitarist in various local bands. In 2004 he co-founded the company Zodyo Music, a studio where he creates original music, produces, arranges, records & mixes albums with emerging artists & composes for TV, commercials, web content & video games. In 2010, he joined Montreal's original band The Blue Seeds as a drummer. He also accompanies emerging artists and works as a session-musician on various local projects.
Bart Frydrychowicz, known as the lead composer & founder of the internationally acclaimed melodic death metal band Quo Vadis, joins Najah & Jean-Sébastien in 2012. Bart has been composing and performing music since 1992. With 6 albums and multiple international tours under his belt, Bart has extensive experience as a performer and in the music business; he has worked with acclaimed artists such as Steve DiGiorgio (Death, Sebastian Bach, Testament) and famous Quebec cellist Claude Lamothe.
How it all started...
Another Critical Moment
In 2013, Najah released ‘Another Critical Moment’ that was produced, co-arranged, recorded and mixed by Jean-Sébastien Brault-Labbé (Zodyo Studio). The album captures Najah’s & Jean-Sébastien’s versatility in composition and arrangements, from the choice of texturised arrangements and mix of world-inspired instruments – such as Ecuadorian charango & Middle Eastern darbouka in ‘Come with Me’ - to the haunting electro-acoustic ‘Undecided’ & the trip-hopish ‘Killer of Love’. The entire EP is wrapped in Najah’s free-form melodic singing inspired by her middle-eastern origins.
